300

Spartan Warrior

The immense green background panels, cranes, amazing costumes, a huge crew and multiple technicians… Famous actors on set, trainers, and the charisma of a Zack Snyder behind the camera… All these people working together to tell a story… Shooting a feature movie, scene by scene!

Being on set for the movie 300 was a revelation for me… I had been doing some background work as an extra for many productions for a few months in the Montreal area, but being on set for this big blockbuster production was a notch higher than anything I had seen at this point…

There were three days of work to be done as an extra on this movie. On the second day, I was very fortunate for being asked to join another small group that would perform a scene where Spartan Warriors from the second wave would be gathered around bonfires whilst listening to the tale of our king Leonidas who died for the glory of Sparta. And at one point, we got to yell: “Leonidas! Our king!” and we chanted “Aroo! Aroo!” from the top of our lungs. And on the third day, I was asked aside with some other members of our group of warriors to go with the crew that would shoot shapes and shadows of warriors on various pieces of the set in front of green screens so that our silhouettes would be use to increase the number of soldiers in the background of numerous scenes of the movie.

It was a tremendous experience that led me to make the decision to take acting classes regularly for the three years that followed so that I could learn to, possibly one day, become part of the multitude of artists it takes for telling such stories…

At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), king of the Greek city state of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army.
